THE KANTHA JACKET
The cotton ‘Kanthas’ are three layers of fabric Hand stitched together in geometric patterns.
This style of ‘Kantha’ embroidery is typical of the style of ‘Kanthas’ in the East of Bengal. This collection is in pure cotton,a sustainable fibre.
The process by which the hand work is done is intricate and detailed, and can take up to several months to complete.
I work with an organization in the village of Katna in Bengal where the handwork is done entirely by women.
By using their beautiful work we enable their financial empowerment.
These are usually one of a kind pieces and rarely will you see any two identical ones. The Cotton Kanthas are proudly Hand made in India by women.
I have designed them with hidden side pockets and artistically made ties. The hand embroidery done on the entire garment give it a very interesting texture.
